I have been interested in nature and birding most of my life. I grew up in Southern California where I started birding at the age of 8. I completed Cornell Laboratory's Seminars in Ornithology at age 15 and went on my first Christmas Bird count at 16. I have lived and participated in Audubon bird counts in Oregon, Washington State and Florida. I met Cindy my wife in 1992 when I was teaching Ornithology at the University of La Verne in California and we have shared a lasting passion for each other and for birding. We have traveled extensively and have led bird tours to several areas in the U.S., Mexico and Central America. Before moving to Arizona we lived in Florida where we compiled the Zellwood Christmas Bird Count . The claim to fame of the Zellwood Count, is a record high species total in the U.S. for a count that is completely land-locked (198). We moved to Arizona in 2001and in 2002 took over as compilers for the Salt Verde Count. We hope you will join us on the count and share our enthusiam for birds and birding.
